Focus Slovakia

17. and 18. October 2011

46th edition of Maribor Theatre Festival will devote special attention to Slovak drama and theatre. On this occasion, we have published the book Contemporary Slovak Drama, edited by Alja Predan with Slovene translations of three contemporary Slovak plays:

  • Viliam Klimáček: Hypermarket translated by Nives Vidrih,
  • Vladislava Fekete: Brief Connections  translated by Alja Predan,
  • Zuza Ferenczová, Anton Medowits: Solitaire.sk translated by Špela Sevšek Šramel.

All three plays will be presented as staged readings by the students of the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television under the tutorship of the director Yulia Roschina.
Elena Knopová, a theatre researcher and the author of the foreword for Contemporary Slovak Drama, will deliver a lecture on Slovak drama and theatre.

Vladislava Fekete, the curator of the Focus Slovakia and the director of the Theatre Institute in Bratislava, will present the history and operation of this renowned institution.
