The Maribor Theatre Festival’s Focus opens the communication and bridges the gap with the international space. This year’s edition is dedicated to Swedish playwriting and theatre. Each year, the literary collection Contemporary European Drama is thicker by yet another edition, this time we have published the sixth in the series: Contemporary Swedish Drama (edited by Alja Predan) featuring translations of four contemporary plays selected by Edward Bromberg in collaboration with Alja Predan.

The presentation of the book with an introductory lecture by Ulricha Johnson, the director of the Swedish ITI, as well as the first staged reading of the play Medea’s Children (S. Osten, P. Lysander) and a conversation with translator Vida Sebastian and director Michael Cock will be on Monday, 17 October 2016. The Focus continues on Tuesday, 18 October, with two staged readings: Dissection of a Snowfall (S. Stridsberg) and I Call Upon My Brother (J. H. Khemiri) followed by a conversation with translator Mita Gustinčič Pahor. The Focus will be concluded on Wednesday, 19 October, with the staged reading of Where is Everybody? and the conversation with translator Silvana Orel Kos and Urlicha Johnson.

The programme of Swedish Focus will be moderated by Rok Bozovičar, it will be conducted in English and will be performed on the Small Stage of the Drama of the Slovenian National Theatre Maribor. The director of staged readings performed by the students of the University of Ljubljana Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and TV  will be Nina Rajić Kranjac.
