This time, Iztok Mlakar was inspired by Hugo Hofmannsthal who wrote Everyman – a play on the death of a rich man based on the English mediaeval morality play The Sononynge of Everyman – exactly 100 years ago for the Salzburg Festival. Mlakar’s Joseph Everyman – Pepi – is torn between the here and the beyond: here he dances between his Wife, the Poor Man, the Friend, the Gerdarme, Rufiana, and the Holy Trinity of Lawyer, Politician and Financier; beyond he dances between Death, God, Mother and Devil. He is aware that nothing in life is certain except death and taxes. But what is essentially the story of the contemporary Everyman? Through the whirlwind of the present-day ordeal and despite the agitated storms of everyday life, the end still doesn’t bring redemption but …
